April Bunco

Bunco is still alive and well in Oaklyn Hills, as Tuesday night, April 19, proved! Krystal was the host, with Cara as her helper, and guests enjoyed a delicious spread of food and four exciting rounds of the addictive game!

Krystal was the winner for the most Buncos... hands down! (Wait - the hostess won? Was this rigged?) :)

Paige won a roll-off for most losses for the night.

And with a three-way tie for most wins, a heated roll-off took place, with Toni coming out the overall winner.

Fun times are being planned for future Bunco games, coming soon to a neighbor's house near you! Look for details in your e-mail box, or contact the event committee to be included on our e-mail list.

We're Thankful for Bunco!

November's neighborhood Bunco event took place at the home of Kristin on Tuesday the 16th. With 15 players, 1 baby (Brooke paid a visit!) and 1 ghost (that's 4 tables of Bunco!), the lively group of girls rolled through several fun rounds.

More players meant more money in the kitty -- and more ties!

After a few exciting roll-offs, winners were finalized, with Amy and Cindy sharing the win for "most Buncos."

Christy C. claimed the top prize of "most wins."

And Kimberly (and baby girl) walked away with "most losses" for the night.

The girls are taking the month of December off for vacations and holidays but will be back in January for more Bunco fun! If you are new to the neighborhood and would like to play, please e-mail the event committee at oaklynhillseventcommittee@gmail.com

Spooktacular October Bunco

On Tuesday, October 19, Bunco night in Oaklyn Hills experienced a little Halloween twist, as the ladies enjoyed snacking on some mysteriously eerie goodies, like brain goo salad, putrid punch, monster fingers, mini mummies... and eyeballs! (AKA: strawberry pretzel salad, citrus punch, cheese sticks, pigs in a blanket and chocolate-covered Oreos.)

Beth opened up her home as the hostess, and Season was her helper. Halloween costumes were welcome... but not required! Beth was sporting some swashbuckling pirate garb. Season came dressed as a hippie - complete with armpit hair! And Cathryn, in all black, modeled a sparkly-fun witch's hat!

The girls played several rounds of the fast-paced, dice-rolling game, while munching on all the ghoulish goodies! But in the end, Brandi won for "most Buncos."

Christy and Cara tied (and shared) for "most wins."

And our fearless leader, Paige, did not leave empty handed... she took the title of "most losses.

Next month's event will be held at the home of Kristin! More details to come soon!

September Bunco

September's Bunco event took place on Tuesday, September 21, at Tina's home on Rolling Hills Drive (an appropriately named street for a fun group of dice rollers)!

As usual, the women had loads of fun, enjoying great food, great conversation and several exciting rounds of the neighborhood's favorite game!

Mindy won this time for most losses.

Toni took home the prize for the most Buncos.

And Cathryn was the big winner for the evening!

October's Bunco will be a Halloween-themed event at Beth's house on October 19. Costumes welcome!

August Bunco Baby Shower!

August's Bunco night on Tuesday the 17th at Christy's home on Lakeland Ridge took on a whole new level of fun... and surprise... as THREE of our neighborhood Bunco girls were treated to a secret, surprise BABY shower!

The dice were put aside for the evening, and the baby games overruled, with the group drawing portraits of their babies (without looking at the paper!) and sniffing "dirty" diapers to determine the brand of melted chocolate inside.

Everyone enjoyed an amazing spread of delectable food, strawberry punch, a cute-as-can-be baby carriage cake (decorated by Season)... and some scrumptious gourmet apple favors (created by Kristin).

Thanks to everyone who helped make this "Bunco" event possible! It was a wonderful time to celebrate friendships made and to recognize Paige, Cara and Tina... and their new little ones!

* Regularly scheduled Bunco nights will return in September at Tina's house!

More Bunco, Rolling in July

July's Bunco event took place at Season's home, with Beth helping, on Tuesday the 20th. The lively group of ladies munched on delicious snacks (as always!), caught up on all the latest news and events and sped through numerous rounds of Bunco, with a ghost filling in one chair.

Cara took home the most wins for the evening... but declined to pose for a photo, even though pregnancy is treating her very well!

Newbie, Kim, showcased the infamous beginner's luck and was on a roll all evening long! She even won for most Buncos, after a heated roll-off with Amy and Beth.

But Amy still walked away happy, taking home the prize for "most losses." She is shown here striking the very familiar "Bunco loser" pose.

The next evening of dice-rolling fun is scheduled for August 17 at the home of Christy B. Hope to see y'all there!

June Bunco Fun

With vacation time and busy schedules competing for attention this month, only nine players were able to participte in Bunco at Paige's home on Tuesday, June 15. But the small group of girls had a GREAT time, with lots of time to talk and catch up!

Tina came out on top for the evening with the most wins.

Cara (and baby!) took home the title of most buncos.

And Kristin won in a roll off for most losses.

Check back for more information about upcoming events and Bunco games!

Spring Bunco -- April & May

Sorry for the delay in getting our April Bunco information to you.... but... better late than never... right?!?!

Due to illness, baseball games and just plain, old busy lives, only 9 ladies were able to attend the event on Tuesday, April 20, at Toni's home on Rolling Hills Drive. But the group had a fantastic night playing with "ghosts."

Veteran Bunco-player, Brandi, took the title for "Most Losses."

Susan scooped up "Most Buncos" and "Most Wins"

...and Christy B. won the prize for "Most Wins."

Wait a second...perhaps Christy won second place? Ooops. That's what this blog writer gets for not attending April Bunco! (Can anyone clarify?!?!)

May's Bunco took place at Cara's house on Oaklyn Hills Drive last night, May 18. Twelve ready-to-play ladies were in attendance, with many of the "original" Bunco players on hand. But the newcomers definitely had the advantage. Beginners luck? Perhaps. However you want to look at it, our new Oaklyn Hills' resident, Kristin, took the coveted "Most Wins."

Paige (and baby!) claimed "Most Buncos."

And Deidra (a Bunco newbie) had the honor of claiming the "Most Losses" title.

The evening was full of howls, laughs and shrieks of victory. It was also riddled with the dreaded "snake eyes" (rolling three 1's and wiping out ALL your team's points). Cathryn actually rolled snake eyes as she was explaining the concept to someone... immediately after they had rolled three 1's. Snake eyes were popping up all over the place! But Christy C. led the crowd with 4... or perhaps 5...? The ladies eventually stopped counting in fear that they would curse the whole group! Nonetheless, it was enough to make the group consider a special prize for such an impressive feat.

June's Bunco event is still to be determined. A "theme night" has been suggested, so keep your eyes open for details... and for pictures. There's always "Amazons vs. Pygmies," as this photo might suggest!

OK.... Don't get short with me! That "Amazons vs. Pygmies" idea is actually head and shoulders above the rest. No tall tales here. We're actually a little short on ideas right now. It's no small matter. In fact, the long of the short of it is: we don't know the theme or the date as of right now. ;)

Neighborhood Yard Sale & Bake Sale -- Returns June 5

Don't throw out that old sofa or get rid of those two-sizes-too-small clothes just yet! The second annual neighborhood yard sale and bake sale returns to Oaklyn Hills on Saturday, June 5, to raise more money for our area. (We raised almost $1,000 last year, so we are really excited to try this fun event again this year!)
The event committee is currently working out all the details, so be looking for more information, fliers and application forms -- soon! (Or feel free to e-mail us with any questions.)
Like last year, neighbors will be able to join the fun by making a small donation (and donating a part of their "profits") to the common area! The event committee will place ads about the neighborhood sale in The Birmingham News and on craigslist, and we will post signs on the major roads in our area.
We will also be collecting baked goods to sell near the front of the neighborhood... as people come in to check out all the great deals! So please help us by baking your delicious cookies, breads, cakes and more! We had some AMAZING goodies last year, so come early if you want to pick some things up for your family!
And this year, we're planning on including a special neigbors-only "sneak peak" on Friday night -- before the sale -- in case there are some good deals or special items.

Hope y'all will participate -- by buying, baking, donating and/or selling!

Bunco Keeps Rolling Through March

March 23 was the date for the latest Bunco gathering in Oaklyn Hills. The event was hosted by Natalie, with Susan as her helper.

The girls had lots of fun (as always) and showcased a few new winners this time! Amy was on her game with 4 buncos, but Gailyn beat her out for most wins (after an intense roll-off).

Don't feel bad, though: Amy won for most Buncos of the night.

And Kathy took the title of most losses.

The next Bunco game will be held on Tuesday, April 20, at Toni's house.

February Bunco Fun

The Bunco girls were at it again on Tuesday, February 16, at the home of Brandi on Rolling Hills Drive.

The smaller-then-usual group of only 10 players had a great time, with Christy B. ending up with most wins and Paige ending up with most losses... for the second month in a row!

Most buncos for the evening was an incredible three-way tie between Cathryn, Cara and Leigh Ann.

But after a roll-off, Cara walked away with the title.

Because of the dates for Spring Break this March, our typical, second-Tuesday-night Bunco game is being moved to March 23. Natalie will be hosting, and Susan is helping!

January Bunco: Rolling-in The New Year

After a month off for the holidays, the ladies of Oaklyn Hills were excited to get together again for the first neighborhood Bunco game of 2010 on January 19. Cathryn opened up her home as hostess for the evening, and Paige helped.

Veteran Bunco player, Tina, won the coveted title of "most wins.

"Brandi and Paige tied for "most losses;" after a roll-off, Paige ended up with the title, which is probably not as coveted... but still fun and marginally profitable!

Cathryn and Cara tied for the "most Buncos" and decided to split the prize money.

And in other noteworthy news, Krystal rolled a record-breaking 5 snakes eyes!

Next month's Bunco game takes place on February 16. Brandi will host, and Tina will be the helper.
